(in plain words)
Telegram will not let you do everything at once, very fast.
If you overdo it, it says “wait” or temporarily blocks you from messaging strangers. People call this flood or a hold.
The numbers below are typical. A new account has tighter limits. Premium raises some of them. There is no official public anti-spam table.
To check a hold, message @SpamBot.
What you cannot do “in one click”
| Action | Limit |
|---|---|
| Forward a batch of messages | 100 at once |
| Text in one message | 4096 characters |
| Caption on a photo / video / file | 1024 (Premium — 4096) |
| Pictures in one album | 10 |
| Channels + groups combined | 500 (Premium — 1000) |
Public @username addresses per account |
10 (Premium — 20) |
Messages
- One message = max 4096 characters. Longer? Split it.
- A caption is shorter than a normal message.
- A regular user can edit their own message for 48 hours.
- In a channel, an admin can edit posts with almost no such timer.
- If you edit many channels in a row, very fast, Telegram will stop you. It is not “exactly 30 channels” — it is just too often.
Forwarding
- At most 100 messages in one forward batch.
- If a channel has content protection on, you cannot forward at all.
- Dumping batches into many chats in a row is risky: first “wait”, then a hold.
Channels and groups
- You cannot sit in unlimited chats: cap is 500 / 1000.
- You can create about 50 groups or channels per day.
- Joining 100 channels at once almost always means a hold.
- Join a little at a time, not a pile in one evening.
- You can force-add people into a channel only while it is still small (around 200 members).
Speed
Rough and human:
- Do not message strangers in a batch. Fastest way into a hold.
- Do not hammer one group with messages and no pause.
- A bot in a private chat: about 1 message per second. In a group: about 20 per minute.
- If Telegram says “wait N seconds” — wait all N seconds. Retrying immediately makes the wait longer.
Three problems people mix up
- Wait X seconds (
FLOOD_WAIT) — a short pause. Not a ban. - Too many actions (
PEER_FLOOD) — usually hours. - Hold / spamblock — you cannot write first to non-contacts. You can still reply to people who wrote you. Check @SpamBot.
How not to catch a hold
- Forward in batches of up to 100, pause between batches.
- Do not join a hundred channels at once.
- Do not edit dozens of channels with no break.
- Do not send the same text to a pile of strangers.
- Got “wait”? Stop. Do not mash the button.
