How to Properly Angle a Model When Printing on a Resin Printer
A simple explanation for beginners
Resin printing (SLA, DLP, LCD/MSLA) builds a model layer by layer from liquid resin under ultraviolet light.
One of the most important factors is at what angle the model sits on the build plate.
Correct tilt strongly affects quality, strength, and how many problems you get during printing.
Why is tilt so important?
When the printer prints the next layer, it peels it off the film (FEP).
If the model lies flat (0° angle):
- The layer area is very large.
- Strong “suction” (vacuum) builds up.
- The model can crack, detach, or fail to print at all.
Tilt reduces each layer’s area → reduces suction force → printing is more reliable.
How different angles affect the result
- 0° (flat) — very bad. Strong suction, many failures.
- 30–45° — the best choice for most cases.
- 90° (vertical) — good for small details, but layer lines show strongly on angled surfaces.
Golden rule:
Always start at 45 degrees — the safest and most universal angle.

- Elegoo Mars and Saturn → 30–45°
- Creality Halot-Mage S → 35–55° (best around ~45°)

- Never print a model completely flat.
- If a part is very flat — lift one edge 5–10 mm and tilt 15–20°.

- When changing resin or after a long idle period — always do a test print.
- Large models are best tilted in two planes (a bit forward and a bit sideways).
